Tristine grew up in South Florida fishing, diving and loving the water. She went to college for photography and started her professional career in 2004. In 2014, she had the opportunity to use an underwater housing and instantly fell in love. With the help of friends modeling for her, she taught herself posing and lighting to try to master the art of underwater photography. Tristine is an award winning photographer and has been teaching since 2016 both domestically and internationally and loves to travel to photograph the different waters of the world. She has been featured in PPA Magazine and photographs the monthly cover for Hutchinson Island Neighbors magazine and has been featured in many online magazines as well.

Monica grew up in Southern California fishing the Channel Islands with her dad. When she wasn't fishing she was swimming and hanging out at the beach. After her son was born she rekindled her passion for photography from her teenage years and began professionally in 2012, specializing in pregnancy and newborn photography. When looking for something to set her apart from her competition, she found underwater portraiture and immediately knew that she wanted to combine her two loves. Monica has been photographing underwater professionally since 2016. She is an award winning photographer, and has been featured by KTLA Morning News Live, BuzzFeed Parents, Summerana magazine, Shout Out SoCal and a recent cover of Artell's magazine.

Monica & Tristine met in 2016 while Monica was an attendee at an underwater workshop where Tristine was an instructor.
They became fast friends as they realized how much they have in common. They both enjoy fishing, swimming, diving and of course photography.
In 2023, Tristine & Monica decided it was time to form Beneath the Surface as a way to share their love of the water and to
introduce the art of underwater portraiture to other photographers through their classes.
